Name: Joyce Tan Shi Hui School: Woodgrove Primary School Level: P6 An Incident at the MRT platform Magnolia clouds floated in the azure blue sky. The majestic morning sun was shining brightly and a zephyr was present. The clouds changed their shapes now and then. It was such a fine day. John was on his way to school. His school was at Marina Bay . He had to take the train to school. John was bored. He hated walking to the train station. Suddenly, an idea came to his mind. He could play with his water bottle. He kept swinging his water bottle, faster and faster each time. Soon, he reached the platform. “Bam!” His water bottle flew into the tracks with a crash. The ladies standing nearby stood in a state of paralysis when they heard the crash. When they recovered, they saw a train approaching in a speed of lightning. They asked a man to press the emergency button. Their hearts were filled with nerve-biting anxiety. Fortunately, the train stopped in time. John felt like a cat on hot bricks as he had tripped over a pebble and fell into the tracks. The train station manager managed to pull John out of the railway track. John had fractured his kneecap and his elbow. He was sent to Singapore General Hospital where he underwent a surgery. The doctor bandaged his wounds and said that he could be discharged in a couple of days. John remembered that he had to call his mother to inform her about the incident. He mustered all his courage and called his mother. He told her what had happened honestly. John’s mother rushed to the hospital after John told her what had happened. She was relieved when she saw that John was safe and sound. She reprimanded John for being so playful. John immediately apologised to his mother. He knew that when he got home, he would get another round of interrogation, boring lectures and scolding from his father. John knew that he was wrong and he felt guilt-stricken. He promised not to be so playful again. Both his parents felt that it was a lesson learnt for John and decided to bring him to school every morning.
